Synopsis:
Gemma seems to have it all—she’s carefree, pretty, and falling in love with Alex, the boy next door. He’s always been just a friend, but this summer they’ve taken their relationship to the next level, and now there’s no going back. Then one night, Gemma’s ordinary life changes forever. She’s taking a late night swim under the stars when she finds Penn, Lexi and Thea partying on the cove. They invite her to join them, and the next morning she wakes up on the beach feeling groggy and sick, knowing something is different.
Suddenly Gemma is stronger, faster, and more beautiful than ever. But her new powers come with a terrifying price. And as she uncovers the truth, she’s is forced to choose between staying with those she loves—or entering a new world brimming with dark hungers and unimaginable secrets.

Review:
What would you do if your whole world changed in a matter of days? Everything you knew shifted and you are a different person. Someone you recognize in the mirror, but not when you’re in the water. That is what Gemma goes through when she meets these mysterious girls and something inside her changes. I really enjoyed Wake. I finally read a good story about Sirens that kept my interest and didn’t bore me!

Cover:
“Come at me, bro.” That’s the feeling I get when I look at this cover. The look on her face is just a challenge for anyone to come and try to get her. Other than the seriousness of her face, I really like it. It’s a pretty cover, and simple.

Plot/Writing:
The plot was very well developed. The way Amanda Hocking writes always captures my attention and drags me into the story. The same thing happened with Wake. The writing on the other hand was just okay. I noticed so many typos all over the place. Sure, they were small and minor, but they tend to add up when you notice a lot of them. It was mostly just like a misspelled name, or a letter wasn’t capitalized when it should be, but it still bothered me. It also had very confusing POV changes. One paragraph would be Gemma, the next would be Harper, and the next would be Alex and so on and so forth.

Characters:
Gemma is the independent, headstrong teenager who thinks she is invincible. Which most teenagers think they are. She would go for midnight swims at the bay, and not worry about the fact that it was late and she could possibly be hurt. I really liked Gemma’s character because she stood up for the ones she loved and tried to keep a clear head about most things. She was a very commendable person.

All in All:
I really enjoyed Wake! I can’t wait to see more of Gemma and Harper!
